If you were to tour the surface of this amazing planet, you would find that it is dotted with countless small brownish spots that measure about a centimeter or less in diameter, and which appear to be almost a hundred times darker than the Earth’s entire atmosphere. This feature is known as the “morning star,” and can be seen shining brightly at dawn on the days when the planet is most likely to receive an extremely strong solar radiation. In fact, it is possible that the planet’s surface could contain quantities of this “morning star” that are much higher than what is normally found.
When you study the planet’s temperature patterns, you will see that the greatest temperature differences can be observed during either the spring or autumn months. Surprisingly, the planet’s spring temperature (which technically is the maximum daytime temperature) rarely rises above a degree centigrade for more than a week per year – although the autumn months do experience a slight increase. It is possible that the planet’s average temperature oscillates between these two extremes. But other research has suggested that a small water mass situated around the south pole could cause the planet’s temperature to fluctuate by as much as 14 degrees Celsius over the winter season.
The spring equinox happens to fall on the exact day when Venus passes through its closest neighbouring planet, Jupiter. This celestial body contributes about two Solar Radiation Points, or SRPs, to the planet’s annual average temperature. Each pole receives and radiates a slightly different amount of ultraviolet radiation, which is sent out into space by the Sun. One of the interesting things to note about this is that while each of the planets’SRPs have varying effects on the planet’s temperature, the largest planet by far (Venus) has the strongest influence.

The figure is derived by taking the average temperature each day for 365 days and taking the difference between this and the daily temperature recorded at the station. This figure then is divided by the number of days in a year, sixty days is the average. Because the Earth’s tilt and orbit make a big difference to the temperature of the planet, the temperature on a very warm day in Venus may be significantly different to that of a very cold day on Earth. This has an effect on the atmospheric pressure of the planet as well, which will mean there is more wind or movement around the Earth’s average temperature.
Because Venus has many different seasons, its average temperature varies throughout the year. The temperature of the surface of Venus is quite extreme in some areas. The poles get extremely hot and the equator is a cool and arid region on the planet. As one goes further into the planet, temperatures become colder and as they do, the poles become warmer, while the equator tends to stay about the same temperature throughout. Because Venus has such extreme temperature variations within a short period of time, it is not surprising that scientists have found Venus to have a large variety of surface temperatures, and there are a number of factors that affect these variations, including the composition of the clouds at various altitudes, the amount of cloud cover, the amount of pollution in the atmosphere and the planet’s position in relation to the Sun.
